Adventures of “Tweedy Bird”

Jim and I met in 2005.  Our ‘do it’ attitudes influenced our relationship and events.

In 2006 we built and were flying an Advanced Ultralight within eight months.  If you really want to get to know someone, build an ultralight together.

In January 2007 we started enjoying our Challenger C-IHHX, which we had named “Tweedy Bird” (construction was begun in Tweed, Ontario).  Also in 2007, we married and honeymooned at the Airventure in Oshkosh.  Soon after our Oshkosh Honeymoon we began our first Ultralight Vacation.

Our story is different because most other Challenger travelers are solo with the backseat space available for extra fuel and luggage.  Jim calculated that with the two of us, on floats and a full tank we should keep our additional weight to 50 pounds or less.  Also in this story you will also get perspective from the backseat.

UPAC 2009

lucy

Woof, woof, huhmmm, hmm, well, well, well …that’s better.  Now I can introduce myself, I’m Lucy.  I’m a cocker spaniel.  I’m 4 months old. My new mommy and daddy are real nice and lots of fun.

My mommy just retired and now I get to spend time with her most of the day, get my tummy rubbed, my nails trimmed, my hair trimmed and I get snacks just for being cute.

My mommy and daddy have an Ultralight dealership for the Just Highlander and this week they also officially opened an ultralight flight school.  Woof, woof, wow!

They have been telling me for weeks that I am going to get to go camping at the UPAC convention and that it is going to be so much fun.  The UPAC convention is a three-day event, Friday to Sunday at the home of Ed and C
Kathy Lubitz.  They are going to set up a booth for their business and plan to be there a day early.  I’ve already had a flight in the Highlander.  They put my kennel in the back and I couldn’t see very much so I fell asleep.  They have the cockpit insulated and it is not very noisy inside.
